Community Needs of Older Adults Survey

The Community Congregational Development Corporation (CCDC) is sponsoring this survey to learn about the needs of older adults living in Chula Vista or the South Bay. Since 1970, CCDC has provided housing and services to improve the quality of life of older adults living in the region. Your answers to this survey will help inform how CCDC best works with community partners to fulfill its mission. Please submit your completed survey no later than Friday, September 18th, for the opportunity to win one of five $25 gift cards.

LeSar Development Consultants (LDC) is conducting the survey for CCDC. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes. Your individual answers and personal information will not be shared outside LDC. The combined results will be shared with CCDC and participating community groups to help enhance services for seniors. Thank you for completing the survey!

Virtual Family Assistance Center Integrated Condolence Care Program

The American Red Cross across the United States has developed a program, free of charge, in response to COVID-19 to support individuals and families who have lost family members to death as a result of COVID-19. Materials are provided in both English and Spanish. Translators are available for other languages as well.

The program, known as Virtual Family Assistance Center Integrated Condolence Care Program will link crisis counselors with families to provide emotional and spiritual support, as well as targeted short-term case management to assist with navigating through the challenging processes they might be faced with as a result of the death. This might include challenges with moving the family member’s body through the hospital, nursing home, medical examiner and funeral home systems in this time when those systems may be overwhelmed and their processes may be different than they normally are. They may also include linkage to legal resources for estate, custody, immigration or other issues related to the death.

The following link is to an online intake form that can be submitted by a family member, a friend who thinks someone needs help, or an agency on behalf of the family.

Red Cross COVID-19 Family Support

For those without access to the needed online technology, the phone number will link the caller to an intake person who will assist with the initial steps for getting assistance.

Wednesday Zoom Prayer Meeting

Dear Friends in Christ,

Join our first ZOOM PRAYER MEEETING this coming Wednesday evening July 1 at 7 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. As you might know, I have already been leading prayer services via facebook live, but I am now inviting any of you who would like to participate via ZOOM, instead. Doing it via zoom will allow everyone to participate in a more interactive, engaging way.  We will “try it” and see how it goes! If we like that format we will continue using Zoom every Wednesday evening for prayer time. (Bonus: I hear Pastor Jim might be on the call with us!!)

Email to get on the e-mail list for this and other prayer meetings.

CVRec Senior Roundtable: Food Scarcity

The Senior Roundtable

This program focuses on resources to help food insecure seniors in the South Bay. It is hosted by the City of Chula Vista and our neighbor Aaron Ruiz of Norman Park Senior Center. Please feel free to share the information with anyone in need – for example, right now Meals on Wheels is giving a free meal a day to those 65 or older with low income.
